Covestro's official participation in the ZDHC program is a major milestone in the cooperation between the two parties. By joining the program, Covestro will be able to better lead the innovation of sustainable polyurethane coated textiles with its INSQIN® technology. Covestro has officially joined the Zero Discharge Initiative (ZDHC) as one of the newest “value chain contributorsâ€. After becoming a ZDHC contributor, Covestro will invest more resources to help apparel and footwear brand owners achieve sustainable chemicals management through innovations in chemical technology, materials manufacturing and supply chain cooperation. Covestro offers the waterborne raw materials required for the production of polyurethane coated textiles, which are widely used in the fashion, sports and outdoor apparel industries, such as uppers, synthetic leather garments and bags, functional fabrics and more. Through its pioneering INSQIN® integration service, which covers both technology and R&D, Covestro actively collaborates with apparel and footwear brands and manufacturers to promote innovation in polyurethane-coated textiles and achieve solvent-free materials manufacturing processes. The ZDHC program is dedicated to building a wide range of partnerships that eliminate harmful chemical emissions from the textile and footwear industry value chain through training and delivery of tools. In 2011, six leading textile brands participated in the development of the ZDHC program. Currently, the program has grown into a group of 22 contracted brands, 12 value chain related companies and 7 industry associations. ZDHC announced that Covestro has officially joined the program, along with the Sustainable Clothing Alliance (SAC), the Unicon Nazionale Industria Conciara and the Centro Tessile Serico. Nick Smith, general manager of Covestro's global textile coatings business, said: “I appreciate ZDHC's plan to promote sustainable chemistry in the textile industry. Covestro will work with other ZDHC contractors to lead the fashion industry and continue to expand. The influence of the plan."
